GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The federal government shut down today after congressional disagreements prevented further funding, but programs like Social Security, Medicare, and veterans’ benefits keep running. Small business loans will be paused and some federal workers are on leave or will not get paid until the shutdown ends—changes that may hurt personal budgets. WSAZ
- ➤ Transportation officials announced that construction in Barboursville will cause lane closures on I-64 starting Friday evening from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday—traffic will be rerouted at exit 18 and drivers should expect delays and detours as crews switch lanes onto the new Guyandotte River Bridges.
