More than 100 athletes competed at Marshall University's Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex on Saturday in West Virginia's first Spartan DEKA Strong event—which featured 10 fitness stations—testing strength and endurance and potentially paving the way for more DEKA contests.

On Saturday, Jul. 25, a local shelter ran out of dog treats, prompting residents to donate supplies and arrange more drop-offs to help care for the animals. The shelter will use these contributions to keep a steady supply for pet care.

Marshall University hosted West Virginia’s first DEKA Strong event on Saturday with 100 athletes competing in a run and ten exercise zones. Event coordinator Ashley Fisher said the competition offered a chance for athletes of all skill levels to test their fitness and push past their comfort zone.
