  • After two years of work, Hero House opened the new 304 at Valley Pointe apartment complex in Putnam County to meet rising recovery housing needs in the area.  WSAZ
  • Fuhrmann Orchards invites visitors to explore its pumpkin patch, see a vibrant display of sunflowers, and enjoy fresh apple cider this fall. The staff is ready to help guests have a traditional harvest outing.  WSAZ
  • Donna Gibson (a longtime Jim's welcoming hostess) ended her 42-year career on October 1st (the day of her final shift) when co-workers surprised her with a retirement celebration, honoring her long service.  WSAZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • nVent announced plans to hire 100 new workers at its Eleanor Industrial Park facility to boost its team from 150 to 250 as data center demands grow. The company holds a hiring event today from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. & will hire qualified welders, electricians and builders immediately.  WCHS-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • FUNKTAFEST 9 will bring local music and arts to Huntington as organizers plan live performances and community events, and more details on the schedule and lineup will be shared soon—keeping the community excited for the festival.  WSAZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Ashley Stephens from Cabell County Schools visited First Look at Four yesterday to discuss a research-based technique to build positive relationships with kids—she explained that this method aims to strengthen teacher and student bonds.  WSAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The federal government shut down today after congressional disagreements prevented further funding, but programs like Social Security, Medicare, and veterans’ benefits keep running. Small business loans will be paused and some federal workers are on leave or will not get paid until the shutdown ends—changes that may hurt personal budgets.  WSAZ
  • Transportation officials announced that construction in Barboursville will cause lane closures on I-64 starting Friday evening from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday—traffic will be rerouted at exit 18 and drivers should expect delays and detours as crews switch lanes onto the new Guyandotte River Bridges.  WCHS-TV
