  • On Saturday, Marshall University’s 75 Family Alumni Chapter with Fire and Iron Station 29 hosted Ride for the 75—a scavenger hunt and raffle that raised funds for the Marshall Legacy Fund supporting families of those lost nearly 55 years ago. The event honored all 75 victims and will help provide scholarships for future Marshall students.  WOWK-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are investigating a shooting that injured one person on Sunday afternoon in Huntington—Cabell County dispatchers reported the incident on the 700 block of Jackson Avenue, and no further details on the injury have been released.  WCHS-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials warn that the first heat wave of the season has started in Huntington as high moisture in the air makes temperatures feel near 100 with later readings expected to reach 105—residents are urged to use sunblock and drink extra water.  WSAZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nitro wide receiver Malachi Thompson, winner of last season’s Randy Moss Award, verbally committed to West Virginia University on June 12—he recorded 74 catches for 1,593 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2024. He becomes the fourth local prep athlete to receive a Division I scholarship offer, joining others from our area.  MetroNews
