COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Hungry Lambs Food Initiative launched a program to help local families secure food ahead of the holidays. The initiative was announced on Dec. 19 and will support community needs as the season approaches.  WSAZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Alchemy Theatre is offering a series of Christmas events for families to enjoy various holiday activities, with details announced by its staff and plans unfolding over the season. The festivities will bring local cheer and creative experiences to the community.  WSAZ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Strong overnight winds knocked down trees and power lines in the area, causing power outages and property damage. Officials advise residents to inspect trees for dead limbs and document any damage to help ensure safety.  WSAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews in Cross Lanes will widen Big Tyler Road from two lanes to four on Monday, working from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. between Andrew Jackson Middle and the four-way stop (State Routes 62 and 622 intersect) to ease congestion for drivers as the project continues until early 2027.  WSAZ
  • A local bridge is closed today, cutting off a key route & state officials are working to restore access while advising drivers to take alternate routes until repairs are complete.  WSAZ
  • Governor Patrick Morrisey announced Friday that West Virginia has requested Purple Heart awards for U.S. Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, killed in an ambush-style attack in Washington, D.C., and for Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, who was critically injured and is improving. The honors recognize their service protecting the capital.  WSAZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Four basketball games were played Friday night as Huntington High beat St. Albans by double digits while Spring Valley lost on the road and Midland plus Ironton won at home.  WSAZ
