- ➤ On Monday, a mother lost control on Balls Branch Road when icy conditions nearly sent her car off a steep embankment and neighbors including Shawn Tabor helped rescue her three children + secure the vehicle. WSAZ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Over 700 nativity scenes from around the world are on display today at Ashland Grace Church of the Nazarene during the Festival of Nativities (a local Christmas event) that invites visitors to explore its unique collection. WSAZ

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Woody Williams Center for Advanced Learning and Careers in the former Sears building at Huntington Mall was denied $6 million for a roof replacement by the state School Building Authority on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Cabell County Schools said it is working to secure alternative funding for the need. WCHS-TV
- ➤ Cabell County's new School Safety Officer program places officers in schools to help with morning drop-offs, classroom visits, and lunch routines, building trust between students and law enforcement (a move to change old negative views). Officers will assist with these routine activities in local schools. WSAZ
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Athletic director David Hicks of West Virginia State University remembered junior guard Ishmael Smith for his kind + community spirit after he was found unresponsive this past weekend. The team canceled a scheduled Hawaii game and will hold a campus memorial when classes resume Jan. 12. MetroNews
