COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A tree lighting ceremony dedicated to National Guard members is scheduled for today at a local park in Huntington. Organizers say the event will feature an outdoor display of lights and music to honor service members. WSAZ
- ➤ Marshall football teamed with Kroger to donate 500 turkeys on Thursday, Dec. 4 at Facing Hunger Foodbank in Huntington (part of the long-running Touchdowns for Turkeys program) to support local families during the holiday season. WCHS-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ West Virginia is set to receive an initial $24.5 million over three years from a settlement with Monsanto, Solutia and Pharmacia LLC for cleaning up PCBs found in contaminated water and soil; the state may receive up to $60 million in total for remediation efforts. WCHS-TV
- ➤ A local gym is being renovated into a disaster center to improve emergency response in the community, with work scheduled to start soon. Officials said more details will follow (updates expected). WSAZ
- ➤ West Virginia American Water will begin lead potholing in the Guyandotte area to inspect water service lines for lead. Crews will attach doorhangers before work, and the assessment is set to finish in late 2027 with replacements continuing through 2037. WSAZ
