- ➤ A new overnight shelter is set to open next month to provide temporary lodging for residents in need. Officials expect the facility to ease pressure on current emergency services—bringing more support to the community. WSAZ
- ➤ Dr. Teresa Thacker and Anthony Thacker—a local couple—are sheltering in place in Ocho Rios as a hurricane in Jamaica causes power surges and limits cell service. They said they are safe and will offer medical help once the storm passes. WSAZ

- ➤ Avery Ellis — a senior at Spring Valley High School — was named Wendy’s WSAZ Student Athlete of the Week on Oct. 28. She played volleyball, ran track, and swam while holding a 4.571 GPA and still found time to hang with friends. WSAZ

- ➤ The Fourth Circuit set aside Judge Faber's ruling and sent the case back for a new decision on how opioid distributors can be held responsible under public nuisance law and the controlled substances act — keeping alive Huntington and Cabell County's chance to seek $2.5 billion for a 15-year abatement plan. Plaintiffs say the ruling provides a clear path for further legal steps in the fight against the opioid crisis. MetroNews
- ➤ Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced a statewide initiative to match donations to Facing Hunger Food Bank or Mountaineer Food Bank—up to $26 million—to help locals as federal SNAP benefits will be paused in November. The state made an initial $5 million deposit and is coordinating with the National Guard and agencies to support food distribution. WSAZ
- ➤ Huntington will open Phase 1 of its Homeless Services Hub on Saturday at 96 3rd Avenue West — the new facility will provide emergency shelter and connect residents to mental health, addiction and housing treatment, Mayor Patrick Farrell said.
