- ➤ Thundertones hosted a benefit concert fundraiser that raised money for pets in need for the Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter, and MacKenzie Morley from the Western West Virginia Animal Rescue Alliance discussed the event on First Look at Four with Steve Patrick (WSAZ reported this) (local residents supported the effort). - ➤ Donors raised $20,000 for the Maddox Potter Foundation (October 10) and the money will support its charity programs in the area. Funds from the event are set to help further community services. WSAZ

- ➤ Goodwill Industries moved its Huntington store to 446 Adams Avenue and launched a grand opening celebration that began on October 10 and will run through Sunday, October 12 — the event features free Goodwill totes for the first 25 customers, food trucks with service from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., local coffee vendors, raffle prizes including daily $100 gift certificates and a grand prize scholarship, and a special appearance by Puffy G offering Halloween candy. - ➤ State lawmakers held a panel on vaping rules earlier this week and heard testimony about illegal products and high underage use – officials said clearer guidelines and stronger enforcement are needed to protect children. MetroNews
- ➤ Kanawha Valley Regional Transit Authority will stop fixed-route service on #13 Beech Avenue and #15 South Hills Monday, Oct. 13—adding three new zones for its KRTplus expansion on the same day. Charleston Gazette-Mail
- ➤ Fall turkey season starts today in all 55 counties and runs through Oct. 19; later segments in select counties will open on Oct. 27 with hunting continuing into early November. Hunters 15 and older must have a valid license and follow rules that allow only one bird per person and ban electronic calls and bait — officials stress proper adherence to the regulations. WCHS-TV

- ➤ Dr. Eric Ford’s office in Huntington hosted its third annual Freedom Day USA by offering free exams, cleanings, extractions, and fillings to veterans, active-duty service members, and eligible immediate family members—accompanied by hotdogs, snacks, and homemade baked goods. WSAZ
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Princeton pulled away late to win 35-14 over Greenbrier East as four Tigers scored in a game that boosted their record to 6-0 in Class AAA—Greenbrier East was limited to 28 rushing yards. The win placed Princeton among the few unbeaten teams and the team plans to build on its strong play in upcoming games. MetroNews
- ➤ Marshall soccer team defeated Kentucky 4-1 on Senior Night at Hoops Family Field/Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex—drawing 2,339 fans.
