COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Huntington Fire Fighter's Memorial 5K is set to honor local firefighters with a community run that will take place soon—officials will announce further details shortly.  WSAZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Reenactors performed Civil War Days at Barboursville Community Park, where battles were reenacted and period-accurate goods were sold along with lectures. Organized by Barboursville Civil War Day Inc, the event was the first since COVID and allowed locals to connect with their history.  WSAZ
  • WSAZ’s Tony Cavalier reported on Main Street USA in Milton that the annual Pumpkin Festival Parade celebrated Appalachian harvest traditions and honored the role of pumpkins in local farming— a tradition that began in the 1980s. The event continued a key local celebration that brings a historic harvest spirit to the community.  WSAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Huntington city employees are questioning residency requirements after a council member moved out of her district and two parking board members resigned for living outside city limits despite having Huntington addresses — City Council and Mayor Farrell plan to amend the charter to clarify the rules.  WSAZ
  • Encampments along the floodwall in Huntington are affecting maintenance in the city.  WSAZ
  • The West Virginia Board of Public Works received tentative utility tax assessments for the 2026 tax year that rose 10% to $16.2 billion—$1.5 billion of that increase is linked to the Mountain Valley Pipeline, which became operational in June 2024. The board also approved a deed for the Hal Greer Blvd. improvement project between the state Department of Transportation and the City of Huntington, with final approval of the assessments coming in January after appeals.  MetroNews

  • Jennifer Willis from Pathways Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (Pathways) visited First Look at Four on September 29th to share how the clinic is helping local residents.  WSAZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Huntington has secured the WVSSAC state baseball championships for future years after a bid led by Mayor Farrell and Marshall University — offering a full package of the field, downtown, restaurants, and hotels. Next year’s tournament will be held from June 6 to 13 at Jack Cook Field — a new, world-class stadium built in 2024 that seats 3,500 fans.  MetroNews
  • WVU Director of Athletics Baker said the team must be patient as it struggles in Big 12 play under a new coaching system—he added that ending the spring transfer window will help the Mountaineers lock in players and build a more stable roster ahead of Friday night's game.  MetroNews
