- ➤ Local actor Brad Dourif—who starred as Billy Babbit in the 1975 film—will appear at Foundry Theater today for a special showing of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and a Q&A at 7 p.m. WSAZ
- ➤ Today, Chilifest returns as Todd Nelson and the Old Colony Company crew plan to have a booth at the event (First Look at Four) after sharing key details about the festival. WSAZ
- ➤ Brad Dourif will return to Huntington for a special screening of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest — he visited First Look at Four ahead of his homecoming after starring in Child’s Play and Lord of the Rings. WSAZ
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The West Virginia Conservation Agency said farmers missed enough rain this season to make many eligible for cost-sharing funds—covering expenses like temporary fencing, livestock water setup, revegetation, and crop establishment; growers are urged to speak with their local district office for details. WSAZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reported that hydrilla — an invasive aquatic weed — is growing quickly in Beech Fork Lake and has blocked a boat ramp, prompting staff to monitor its impact on local fish and plants. Experts said the weed is expected to recede as temperatures cool and officials work to secure funding for its removal. WSAZ
- ➤ On Friday, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection held a groundbreaking ceremony at the Black Diamond site in Huntington for a project by Coalfield Development Corporation aimed at turning an abandoned manufacturing facility into a center for renewable energy, manufacturing and recycling. - ➤ West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey met with the Department of Energy in Washington on Sept. 25 — he said his plan was to boost local energy production and keep costs low — and he outlined long-term policy to use our energy resources to strengthen our economy. WSAZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Marshall University is offering training on how to use naloxone—an overdose reversal medication—in the Save a Life Day initiative to help combat overdoses; more than 210 kits were distributed this year, up from 165 last year. WSAZ
