ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers and businesses in Huntington were affected by heavy flooding on 5th Avenue and nearby streets yesterday when rapid rain caused water to build up near 25th Street. Business owner Andrew Leonhart said he saw cars become buoyant (some nearly floating) due to poor drainage, and planned city fixes have yet to solve the problem. WSAZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The West Virginia Conservation Agency announced cost-share funding to help farmers cover extra expenses from recent drought conditions, such as temporary fence measures and livestock water supply. Any local conservation district with a county rated (D1) or higher on the U.S. Drought Monitor is eligible, so affected farmers should contact their district for assistance. MetroNews

- ➤ Congress must act before Dec. 31 to extend ACA tax credits that help over 60,000 West Virginians pay for health care during open enrollment on Nov. 1 — without the subsidy, premiums will rise a lot.
