  • Murder and Merriment will host a fundraiser on September 25 at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church in Hurricane to support former WCHS reporter Kennie Bass and his family amid health challenges. Friends and local theater members will honor his work—especially his role as Cuddles Malloy—by coming together for the event.  WCHS-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • West Virginia lawmakers have stated that a government shutdown will be averted as Senator Jim Justice and Congressman Riley Moore prepare to hold a conference on key bills to attach a short-term continuing resolution—this agreement will keep government operations open past September 30. The delegation emphasized that neither party wants a shutdown and plans to pass all remaining appropriations in the coming days.  MetroNews

  • Marshall defeated UC Santa Barbara 4-0 on Sunday at Hoops Family Field — officials gave red cards that left the visitors a man down and paved the way for four goals from the Herd. The win ended Marshall’s streak of ties and sets the stage for a Sun Belt Conference opener on Friday at home.  MetroNews
