GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Recently, the state Public Service Commission approved a $76 million base rate increase for Appalachian Power and a securitization plan for it to sell $2.4 billion in bonds to cover costs, a move expected to lead to fewer rate hikes in the near future. The commission also ordered a $1 million contribution to the Dollar Energy Fund and raised customer relief amounts from $300 to $500—steps aimed at easing financial burdens—while urging the utility to manage its coal costs. - ➤ DOT crews have started replacing Beechwood Bridge near Memorial Arch in Huntington—using a new design with higher clearance to lessen flooding risk along Four Pole Creek. The bridge will remain closed through winter. WSAZ
