ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday just after 6 p.m., firefighters responded to a burning house near Auburn Road in Westmoreland and later found one person dead despite reports that others evacuated safely—an investigation into the fire's cause is underway. WCHS-TV
- ➤ A man's body was found Friday night after a house fire in Huntington — officials are investigating the cause — and the scene remains secured. WSAZ
- ➤ A vehicle fire — along with a diesel fuel spill from an industrial truck — closed I-64 West near Hal Greer Boulevard in Huntington Friday evening. WSAZ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ City of Huntington has prepared for a huge turnout as more than 30,000 people are set to see country singer Zach Bryan’s concert at Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium today, with police, fire, EMS, and other services coordinating to secure key streets. Parking lots will open at 1 p.m.—and the show starts at 7 p.m.—while selected streets will be closed after the concert to manage traffic safely. MetroNews
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Public Service Commission of West Virginia denied most of the $250.5 million rate increase requested by Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power—approving a $76.1 million increase while keeping customer bills unchanged pending a future refinancing plan. WSAZ
- ➤ The state Public Service Commission approved a $76.1 million base rate increase for Appalachian Power and told the company not to collect the increase through traditional billing, so customers kept paying the current rates. The PSC will soon issue its order on Appalachian Power’s securitization plan—designed to let the utility gradually recover funds while keeping rates steady. MetroNews
- ➤ The MetroNews West Virginia Poll—sponsored by the High Technology Foundation—found that 32% of West Virginians named Jim Justice as the best governor of their lifetime and 61% view him favorably, with these results coming from 400 participants in 55 counties collected between August 8 and 21. Justice also spoke at the Business Summit at The Greenbrier Resort and addressed state conditions and his early impressions as a U.S. Senator. MetroNews
