- ➤ Huntington police arrested 62-year-old Carson Scott Jeffers on Wednesday after he allegedly shot and killed 60-year-old Michael Christian on Tuesday outside his home on 6th Avenue—Jeffers, a homeless man with a long criminal record that includes a past murder, was charged with first degree murder—and he was expected to be arraigned by a Cabell County Magistrate before the day ended. - ➤ A Workforce West Virginia report showed that the state lost more than 7,000 civilian jobs and over 4,000 total jobs in the past year—Chamber president Steve Roberts expressed concern over declining manufacturing and private sector jobs. Patrick Morrisey announced that West Virginia’s final proposal for federally funded broadband expansion is open for public comment and will cover about 74,000 eligible locations—including unserved, underserved and community anchor institutions. The proposal must be submitted by Sept. 4 and comments will be accepted until midnight August 26. MetroNews
- ➤ Attorney General J.B. McCuskey asked to consolidate two vaccine exemption cases—one in Raleigh County where Judge Froble granted a preliminary ruling for religious exemptions and one in Kanawha County challenging Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s order—to avoid confusion over the state’s Equal Protection for Religion Act. The move will have both cases handled together in Raleigh County for a clear and efficient decision.
