EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Incoming freshman at Marshall University moved into dorms this morning with help from parents — student groups cleared bags and boxes along busy campus sidewalks. University officials say enrollment will keep rising as Freshman Week runs from Wednesday through Friday. WSAZ
- ➤ Officials held a ribbon cutting for the new Meadows Elementary in Huntington on Monday. The new building cost $22m and replaces the 1930s school on Washington Boulevard—its design features train-like floors and tunnel-shaped walls while an open house is planned for Tuesday and classes begin Wednesday. WCHS-TV
- ➤ Marshall University freshmen moved into campus dorms yesterday — a key step in preparing for fall classes. University officials confirmed that housing arrangements were completed on schedule. WSAZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Federal, state and local leaders signed an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Monday to reduce flooding in Milton with a project that will begin in 2028 and finish in 2032. The $400 million project will build a 1.5-mile levee—designed to protect over 600 structures and Milton’s central business district. WCHS-TV
- ➤ Governor Morrisey said Marx Development Group purchased four state-run long-term care facilities for $60 million and will invest in building at least three new centers using local labor and materials (Hopemont, Jackie Withrow, John Manchin Sr., and Lakin) to improve patient care and reduce state losses.
