- ➤ Dr. Ashley Stephens of Cabell County Schools said families should start easing into a school sleep routine two weeks before classes begin—shifting bedtime gradually to avoid a shock to kids’ systems. Pediatrician Misty Strow explained that grade school children need nine to 13 hours of sleep while teens need eight to 12 hours—lack of sleep can hurt focus and school performance. WSAZ
