EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lily’s Place in Huntington is giving away backpacks filled with school supplies to support students’ success this school year. Backpacks will be available next week on Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and on Aug. 8 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Marcum Terrace Gymnasium, Former Highlawn Elementary School and Legacy Church Huntington—events that include a Back to School Bash on Aug. 8.  WOWK-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Milton Volunteer Fire Department has adopted First Due to enhance emergency response by tracking incidents and allowing real-time alerts on phones and iPads — the system also maps local businesses for better planning and was upgraded with funding from the Cabell County Commission.  WCHS-TV

  • Marshall Health Network hosted a ribbon cutting and back-to-school event at its new Barboursville clinic on August 1—local leaders, pediatricians, and Mayor Chris Tatum attended as visitors toured the facility and children enjoyed various activities.  WSAZ
