  • Brandon Butcher, a dedicated forecaster with nearly 15 years at WSAZ, announced Tuesday he is stepping away from TV to focus on his health after a quadruple bypass and cardiac event—he will still stay active on social media and remain in town.  WSAZ
  • A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Meeks Mountain Trails on July 22 to open the new recreational area—local officials and community members attended the event.  WSAZ
  • State Auditor Mark Hunt said former news anchor-turned lawyer Tom McGee was a true overcomer who fought many cancers and turned his life around after tough years on TV. McGee died Sunday in hospice care in Huntington at 78, and his visitation will be held Thursday at noon at Henson — Kitchen Funeral Home in Barboursville with donations requested for the Alzheimer’s Foundation.  MetroNews

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested for making bomb threats and creating an armed standoff at William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital on July 21—West Virginia State Police reported that 27-year-old patient Brandon McGoye now faces eight counts of terroristic threats and seven counts of false bomb reports while the investigation finds no evidence of an actual public threat.  WSAZ
  • Huntington Police arrested Matthew Diamond from South Shore, Kentucky on July 16 & charged him with conspiracy to commit a felony for filming the assault in Ritter Park while two other men face felony malicious assault charges and the injured victim was released from the hospital.  WOWK-TV

  • Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell appointed Sharon Mullen Frazier as the new municipal judge on July 22; she brings more than 30 years of courtroom experience as a prosecutor at both local and federal levels. She served as a municipal judge before and is set to help maintain safe neighborhoods in Huntington.  WSAZ
