  • West Virginia State University’s Stinger Produce Market opened its doors on Wednesday on Route 25 across from the university – offering fresh, locally grown vegetables at low prices. The market, now in its second summer, added a subscription service for $15 per box containing three servings and will operate until mid-October.  WOWK-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Governor Morrisey said Wednesday morning a body was found in Ohio County, making eight flood deaths from Saturday's flash floods in Ohio, Wetzel and Marion Counties; he added that one person is still missing, 14 vehicles were pulled from waterways, and local health departments offer free tetanus shots while volunteers are needed for cleanup — community support has been strong.  WSAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a state Public Service Commission hearing, Appalachian Power said selling bonds may cut its $250.5 million base rate increase, which could have raised bills by more than 13 percent—about $24 a month—to about $6 if approved. The PSC will decide on the utility’s proposal and related cases later this year.  MetroNews

HEALTH NEWS

  • Faith Health Appalachia partnered with Mountains of Hope Cancer Coalition and Cabell County Family Resources to install sunscreen dispensers at parks and pools—making sunscreen more accessible and easing skin cancer prevention efforts. Rory Chapman and Doug Korstanje noted the free service is already being well received by community members and may expand to more locations.  WSAZ
