Hurricane native Ryan Stamm opened Corton Lodge on Saturday in Corton to offer travelers a quiet spot to connect with nature.

The renovated 113 year old church sits on more than 100 acres with walking trails and Elk River access (it was booked for five weddings and 18 weekends and will add new walking paths, a children’s play area and a pickleball court).

The West Virginia Supreme Court has imposed a hiring freeze on all open judicial positions due to a $5.5 million funding cut—affecting court jobs in all 55 counties—and officials report more than 60 vacancies remain while they plan to seek supplemental funding from lawmakers.

The state launched the 2025 Summer EBT program to help low-income families pay for food for an estimated 165,000 children.

Most participants got benefits by June 1st & the state will process new applications until Aug. 20th.
