ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • West Virginia State Police reported a head-on crash on WV Route 37 in the East Lynn area Sunday evening that left driver Chelsea Aldridge dead and sent the other driver's wife, two children, and the injured driver to Cabell Huntington Hospital—after which the road reopened—following investigation.  WSAZ

  • Putnam County Development Authority purchased an 84,000 square foot industrial warehouse at 2301 Virginia Avenue in Culloden to boost local economic growth and provide distribution space that can be leased as early as tomorrow. Executive Director Morganne Tenney said the building has 12 dock doors and ample laydown space — features that could attract manufacturers and distributors — and that its location near major interstates supports future economic expansion.  MetroNews

CRIME NEWS

  • Raleigh County Prosecutor Tom Truman said in a WVNS interview that women in West Virginia might face felony charges if they flush, bury or otherwise dispose of fetal remains after a miscarriage—comments made after a Mercer County incident where a man was charged with discarding fetal remains during a domestic dispute.  MetroNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Morrisey pledged his administration will share details about the state child welfare system that cares for more than 6,000 children; local advocates said the planned changes—such as public sharing of key case data—may strengthen efforts to keep children safe.  MetroNews
  • West Virginia applied for a federal waiver that would remove soda from SNAP purchases and add hot foods like rotisserie chicken to the eligible list—about 2,118 retailers must update their systems within one year. Gov. Patrick Morrisey said the change is aimed at boosting nutrition while shifting system upgrade costs to retailers—smaller stores will get help with technical issues if needed.  MetroNews
  • Federal officials announced that MSHA offices will remain open after reversing planned closures — a decision welcomed by UMWA and local advocates who remain concerned about future cuts. UMWA Treasurer Brian Sanson stressed that keeping the offices open protects mine safety and jobs — and he urged more transparency from federal leadership on upcoming changes.  MetroNews
