  • NextEra Energy plans a 500-kV transmission line to run across West Virginia connecting to Pennsylvania, Maryland & Virginia to upgrade the region’s grid, gather public input during summer meetings, and direct a portion of project tax revenue to local schools.  MetroNews

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Guyandotte Elementary in Cabell County received a distinguished award for student achievement improvements during a ceremony held yesterday.  WSAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced a four-day America 250 celebration in Charleston from July 2-5 featuring a 230-foot Ferris wheel, live music, local food, and a 3D light show on the state Capitol (with festivities including an America 250 pageant and commemorative license plates), with more details coming soon.  MetroNews

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Lincoln Cougars defeated South Harrison 6-2 in the Class AA Region II winners bracket final today, with two first-inning home runs and a complete game by senior AJ Bart. The team now needs one win in two games to reach the state tournament.  MetroNews
  • The Hurricane team defeated Oak Hill on Tuesday, May 19 in a competitive game that energized local fans (official scoring details were not released).  WSAZ
  • Mountaineers’ ace Maxx Yehl was named Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Year on Tuesday, May 19, joining fellow players Chansen Cole, Ian Korn and Gavin Kelly on the All-Big 12 First Team. The award boosts the team's push to return to the NCAA Tournament.  MetroNews
  • Marshall lost 11-1 to Louisiana Tuesday at DABOS Park during the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, ending their season at 23-32. Coach Beals said Bryce Blevins struggled as Louisiana advanced to the quarterfinals.  MetroNews
