Marshall University officials hosted a mile-long walk at Ritter Park on May 16 as part of Gov. Patrick Morrisey's Mountaineer Mile initiative; over 200 locals joined leaders from the university, Marshall Health Network, and the city to launch Community Cares Week (a four-day campus beautification event) (volunteer projects are planned to continue).

The Huntington Museum of Art urged local officials and community members to support continued federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts after emails on May 2 indicated that grants already awarded might be cut.
