- ➤ Marshall University officials hosted a mile-long walk at Ritter Park on May 16 as part of Gov. Patrick Morrisey's Mountaineer Mile initiative; over 200 locals joined leaders from the university, Marshall Health Network, and the city to launch Community Cares Week (a four-day campus beautification event) (volunteer projects are planned to continue). - ➤ The Better Business Bureau is hosting its 13th annual Shred & E-cycle event today from 9 a.m. to noon at the Marshall University parking lot at the corner of 3rd Ave. and Hal Greer Blvd. The event offers shredding and e-cycling services to raise awareness for identity theft and fraud protection, accepts donations for the BBB Charitable and Educational Fund, and features Knight Horst with Taylor Iron and Metal while not taking certain batteries, box TVs, or mercury monitors (flat screen TVs are accepted with a two-item limit). - ➤ The Huntington Museum of Art urged local officials and community members to support continued federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts after emails on May 2 indicated that grants already awarded might be cut.
