CULTURE NEWS

  • WSAZ's Susan Nicholas, a local broadcast journalist with nearly 40 years of service since starting in Milton, will be inducted into the West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame on Oct. 27 at the Museum of Radio and Technology in Huntington.  WSAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Huntington Police Department held a memorial service on Friday, May 15 to honor officers who died in the line of duty. The event is part of National Police Officers Memorial Week and recognizes the sacrifices made by past officers.  WSAZ
  • City crews began repairing a water leak yesterday in a local neighborhood; they expect to finish the work later today. Residents may experience brief service interruptions during the repair.  WSAZ
  • Crews at the Ashland Water Department are repairing a raw water intake line that supplies the water treatment plant + extra contractors have been called in to assist amid ongoing challenges.  WSAZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marshall lost 5-7 to Arizona in the NCAA Softball Championship’s Durham Regional — the tough game ended their season as local fans witnessed a hard-fought contest.  WSAZ
  • Friday, the George Washington boys tennis team beat Parkersburg 4-2 to capture their first title since 2021, and the Huntington girls team repeated a state championship by defeating Morgantown 4-1 at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex.  MetroNews
  • Marshall Thundering Herd Softball team is in Durham for the NCAA Tournament and will face Arizona at 2:30 while Keith Morehouse and Jim Treacy bring preview details from the road.  WSAZ
