EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The new Woody Williams Center for Advanced Learning and Careers is under construction in the former Sears Building at the Huntington Mall. Dr. Ashley Stephens from Cabell County Schools has invited community members to an Open House to learn more about the center. WSAZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Thanks to a Permco Community Grant, the Kenova Fire Department received a new eFireX extinguisher system (to fight lithium-ion battery fires). West Virginia State Sens. Mike Woelfel and Scott Fuller secured the grant to boost local fire response. The Wayne County News
- ➤ Officials announced Tuesday afternoon at the 130th Airlift Wing in Charleston that the Ascend Heroes program is expanding state efforts to attract U.S. veterans by offering a $20,000 incentive for remote work and home purchase options; the program aims to bring 145 veterans to West Virginia. - ➤ Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced a program offering a $12,000 incentive for veterans who work remotely + have a job lined up to move to one of six Ascend communities in West Virginia within six months to boost the workforce. WSAZ
- ➤ Cabell County installed a new doppler radar stream gauge outside Hite Saunders Elementary School to measure water levels in Grapevine Creek and alert officials when the water rises. The gauge will help warn residents in Enslow Park as previous night floods raised safety concerns. WSAZ

- ➤ Amy Vaughan Dermatology in Barboursville announced Tuesday morning that they are now offering a new non-surgical treatment for non-melanoma skin cancer — a method that uses ultrasound to direct low-level X-rays to target cancer cells. WSAZ
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Coach Robert Shields earned his 1,000th win Tuesday when Bridgeport defeated RCB 15-5 with ten runs in the third inning, and he now aims for the state championship game on June 13 in Huntington. MetroNews
- ➤ WVU's baseball team won 7-2 at Go Mart Ballpark Tuesday night. They built a 4-0 lead with two solo home runs and added runs in later innings as the win set up upcoming conference games. WSAZ
- ➤ No.15 West Virginia won 7-2 against Marshall Tuesday night at GoMart Ballpark, with Gavin Kelly’s two home runs and David Hagen pitching five innings with one run allowed so the Mountaineers swept the season series. The team now builds momentum ahead of Friday’s three-game series at Kansas. MetroNews
