On Tuesday morning, a crash on westbound I-64 at mile marker 13 slowed traffic and caused one injury — emergency officials blocked the right and middle lanes.

A Cabell County judge sentenced contractor Jacob Dean Meadows to 1 to 10 years of home confinement on Tuesday after he was convicted for obtaining money by false pretense from homeowners in two counties—he must pay $18,000 to one victim with monthly payments of $1,000.

Huntington city council approved funds that let Mayor Patrick Farrell use opioid settlement money to build a new emergency overnight shelter on 3rd Avenue West—designed to provide addiction treatment, mental health services and housing assistance.

Farrell said he hopes the shelter will open before winter while the city mission remains open to ensure a smooth transition for clients.

Marshall University announced Tuesday afternoon that it will not renew Athletic Director Christian Spears’ contract—he was hired in February 2022 and oversaw projects like building Jack Cook Field and winning championships for the women’s basketball team.

The university will begin a national search for a new athletic director while Spears stays on during the transition.
