COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Marshall School of Art & Design and Facing Hunger Foodbank are teaming up for an Empty Bowls fundraiser—offering a chance to win a unique art piece while raising funds to help feed local families. The event will take place soon in Huntington. WSAZ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Marshall Health Network held a pinning ceremony Monday for high school seniors from Cabell Midland and Wayne High Schools joining the two-year MedEx program. The program offers hands-on healthcare experience + helps students prepare for future careers. WSAZ
- ➤ Marshall University received $900,000 in congressional funding (provided by Rep. Riley Moore) to build a new aviation training facility that will offer hands-on lessons for future pilots. WSAZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Masontown-based Bionic Tire Recycling processes old tires to create a 4mm pellet used in playgrounds and recycles steel and textile materials. The company receives tire deliveries from retailers and trucking companies and plans to add compression molding to make paving tiles (and other rubber products) in the near future. MetroNews
- ➤ Taylor Eaton reports on WSAZ+ that customers of the Lincoln Public Service District are experiencing water quality issues, with further updates expected as local officials assess the situation. WSAZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards said today that Centralia Street is closed for about a month for storm drain repairs — vehicles should use Wallace Street as the detour. WSAZ
- ➤ Crews said one westbound lane on Veterans Memorial Blvd between 4th and 12th Streets in downtown Huntington will be closed today until Thursday so that the Storm Water Utility can survey the area, with the lane out of service daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. WSAZ

- ➤ The MetroNews high school softball coaches poll shows John Marshall is the unanimous No. 1 team in Class AAA, based on games (played through April 25). Poll updates will be released every Monday until the regular season ends. MetroNews
