CULTURE NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Military Signing Week begins today at 45 high schools where students will publicly announce their decision to join the armed forces. The event, run by the Department of Education & Common Ground Partnership, will continue until Friday, April 24.  MetroNews
  • The West Virginia Department of Education and Chamber of Commerce will host the new Champions in Learning awards in Charleston on Sept. 8 to honor outstanding education professionals from all 55 counties—applications close May 4.  MetroNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Public Service Commission will approve a 4% rate rise for residential and a 2.5% rise for industrial customers on June 1 if Appalachian Power follows its bond plan and delays filing a new case until after June 1, 2027 (a move aimed at easing customer costs).
