CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cabell County judges granted a motion Tuesday morning to delay early parole for Cherylethia Bunny Holmes, convicted of accessory to murder in 2004, as prosecutors argued her sentence officially started in 2011 and she should not be eligible until 2026—an evidentiary hearing is set for April 18 to address public safety concerns. - ➤ Renowned journalist Soledad O'Brien will speak as the keynote at Marshall University’s spring graduation on Saturday, May 10 at the Marshall Health Network Arena in Huntington — she will also be awarded an honorary degree. WCHS-TV

- ➤ A majority of the Senate Health Committee voted Monday to add parts of a vaccination exemptions bill into another bill that requires the Department of Health to report positive alpha-gal tests to the CDC. Senate Health Chairwoman Laura Wakim Chapman said the move may give families another chance to opt out of school vaccination requirements (the original bill was voted down on March 24). MetroNews
- ➤ Mayor Patrick Farrell said a new low barrier overnight shelter will give homeless people a safer place to sleep and help them get health care, mental health care, addiction help and housing support as part of a $78 million city budget for fiscal 2026. The shelter will be built outside downtown and is a team effort by Valley Health Systems & local agencies to offer full services in one place. MetroNews
- ➤ A new report from TRIP released Tuesday said nearly 1 in 5 of West Virginia's 7,200 bridges are in poor or structurally deficient condition, a drop from 20 percent last year as state officials plan to lower that rate below 10 percent amid rising repair costs. The report also found that 23 percent of Huntington roads have poor or mediocre pavement, raising concerns that increased repair costs might lead to a funding shortfall. WSAZ
