CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Cabell County Prosecutor filed a motion to block the parole of Cherylethia 'Bunny' Holmes—convicted of ordering Wendy Morgan’s 2004 murder—saying she is not eligible until Nov. 14 even though she was set for release tomorrow, with a hearing at 9 a.m. today to decide if her release should be delayed. - ➤ Cabell County man Ampless Ray Lilly, 52, was sentenced Monday to 12 years, nine months in prison plus 15 years of supervised release after he collected about 4,000 child pornography files on his cell phone—he had previously pleaded guilty to sexual assault and a firearms offense while on probation. - ➤ The House of Delegates Finance Committee approved two bills Monday, worth nearly $62 million, to pay for the Hope Scholarship next school year—HB 3356 will get $28 million from the general revenue fund surplus and HB 3357 will get $33.8 million from the lottery fund surplus. Del. Bill Anderson, who voted against the bills—warned that rising costs may need future limits on the program. MetroNews

- ➤ Governor Patrick Morrisey signed Senate Bill 458 into law on Monday, allowing licensed professionals to work in West Virginia without needing extra local tests—this effort is expected to boost jobs and economic growth. - ➤ In the final week of the session, Gov. Patrick Morrisey urged the Senate to take up HB 2014 — a bill that passed the House — to let data centers use local energy systems and boost the state’s economy.
