ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A wreck caused a large power outage that left 2,137 customers without power on Wednesday morning along Route 60 and I-64 from the Cabell County Career and Technology Center to Pea Ridge — power was scheduled to be restored by 1 p.m. WSAZ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Law enforcement gave the all-clear as Spring Hill Elementary lockdown was lifted following a reported shots fired incident that caused a delay in dismissal—police later confirmed no threat was found and Cabell County Schools said more details will be shared. WOWK-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Huntington is accepting Hazard Mitigation Grant Program applications from residents impacted by frequent flooding — the deadline is April 8 — and if FEMA approves the funds, eligible homeowners may soon receive help to move or demolish their flood-prone houses. WOWK-TV
- ➤ The Nancy Cartmill Memorial EMS Station is being built in Huntington to improve emergency response and ease ambulance maintenance; it is funded entirely by fees from services and will include an ambulance bay, training room, logistics room, and back bay for electronics repairs. Cabell County EMS Director Gordon Merry said the station, moved about eight blocks from the old location, will open by the end of May (ensuring faster emergency responses). WOWK-TV
- ➤ House Bill 2043 is waiting for Governor Morrisey's signature and would let hunters use drones if the pilot is licensed while limiting each hunter to one tracking dog (a rule meant to suit small pieces of property). - ➤ Senators unanimously approved a bill that will establish the West Virginia Child First Advisory Committee to study challenges in the child welfare system - the committee includes state officials and legislators and will start submitting annual reports in 2026.
