ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Just before 10:45 a.m., Huntington firefighters responded to a U.S. Postal Service truck fire in the parking lot of the Cabell County Career and Technical Center — no injuries were reported.  WCHS-TV
  • A mail truck caught fire on Monday morning along Norway Avenue near the Cabell County Career Technology Center — firefighters quickly knocked down the flames and reported no injuries as a postal inspector arrived on scene.  WSAZ

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, a Nicholas County deputy working alone on an unrelated call at a residence on Ripatoe Road in Lizemores was fired at by suspect Joshua Leaf Carver (32) but escaped injury, and law enforcement later took Carver into custody and charged him with attempted first-degree murder.  MetroNews
  • Tony Spaulding, wanted in Greensboro on multiple felony robbery charges, was arrested Saturday around 10 a.m. at a Kenova convenience store — the police are now looking into additional charges.  WSAZ

  • The West Virginia Music Hall of Fame Induction will take place on April 12. The ceremony will honor musicians who have shaped the state's music and celebrate their contributions to the local sound.  WSAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Legislative leaders placed a bill that might cut Medicaid funding on an inactive calendar today—following a protest at the Capitol that warned the move could leave 165,000 residents without coverage. Health officials say reducing federal funds could hurt rural hospitals—especially in areas that rely on the extra dollars.  MetroNews
