  • Marshall University announced a partnership with Intuit that will bring a Prosperity Hub to the Brad D. Smith Center for Innovation and Business. The hub is expected to create about 250 part-time and full-time jobs for students and graduates, with wages starting at $18 per hour.  WCHS-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawmakers passed S.B. 199 on Tuesday with a 94—3 vote and the Senate voted unanimously, leaving the school discipline bill on the verge of final passage as senators must concur on the House changes. The bill, developed over two years, outlines steps for teachers to manage violent, threatening, or disruptive behavior in kindergarten through sixth grade classes.  MetroNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Huntington city council approved an amended budget Monday night after more than five hours of public comment—shifting $50,000 from jail funds to raise the animal shelter's budget to $250,000 and cutting funding for the city mission's overnight shelter; the new plan goes into effect July 1.  WCHS-TV
  • DMV officials outlined plans to upgrade its outdated drivers license system—transitioning to a modern cloud-based network managed by vendors to prevent issues like the recent outage. The project will cost about $48 million over 12 years and includes a $3.5 million request reviewed by the House Finance Committee later this week.  MetroNews
  • West Virginia House of Delegates members are proposing a law that would require the state to build two centers to house foster children when no care alternatives exist—this proposal follows concerns about foster kids living in hotels and campgrounds due to a lack of proper facilities.  Charleston Gazette-Mail
