CULTURE NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Friday, the Senate approved adding a locality-based raise to a 3% bump planned for teachers, school staff, and state police, but Saturday morning the House rejected the extra option, leaving legislators short of the final agreement needed by midnight on Saturday before sending it to Governor Morrisey's desk.  WSAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Women’s Collegiate Sports Protection Act, SB 502, passed on Saturday and creates permanent endowment funds to boost women’s collegiate sports by using interest earnings for scholarships, coaching and equipment. Senator Jay Taylor said the funds now cover all women’s sports programs in West Virginia.  MetroNews

  • The Home & Garden Show enters its second day today with local vendors offering home improvement ideas and gardening tips. Residents can explore interactive displays and expert advice to brighten their spaces.  WSAZ

  • Thirty-two teams will compete in the WVSSAC Boys Basketball State Tournament starting Tuesday, Mar. 17 at Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. The five-day event will feature radio broadcasts + HD video streams on MetroNews Radio Network and wvmetronews.com.  MetroNews
