GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local transportation officials announced new traffic patterns on I-64 to ease congestion for Huntington commuters. The changes will take effect pending further review, and additional details will be shared soon. WSAZ
- ➤ Governor Morrisey announced on Dec. 29 that West Virginia will receive $199 million from the Rural Health Transformation Fund for 2026 to rebuild & modernize health care. However, the funds will cover only about 20% of the projected Medicaid cuts. The Wayne County News

- ➤ Dr. Lokant of WVU Medicine reported rising flu cases from a new subclade K virus variant that appears to cause more hospitalizations, and he advised residents to adopt simple hygiene practices like washing hands+covering coughs. - ➤ The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services now recommends fewer vaccines for most children, prompting Valley Health’s Dr. Matthew Christiansen to urge local parents to rely on their child’s doctor while vaccines remain fully covered by insurance (experts are monitoring the changes). WSAZ
